Hello and welcome to the Hesperides takeover of the CRSN blog! Hesperides is an international scholarly organization that highlights Greco-Roman engagements throughout the Luso-Hispanic world. You can learn more about us at our website or by following us on Facebook or Twitter.

Over the next few months, our posts on this blog will highlight the work of members of Hesperides from all over the world, showcasing in particular the richness of classical receptions in Latin America. But we wanted to use this first post to introduce the steering committee, who are delighted to serve as editors for this takeover!

Marihá Castro

I am a professor of Portuguese language and literatures at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo, where I research the transmission and reception of classical elements in Brazilian literature. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to showcase classical receptions in the Luso-Hispanic world and hope you enjoy reading these posts by our members!

Julia C. Hernández

As Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish at Washington and Lee University, my teaching and research bridge the disciplines of Classics and Hispanic Studies, tracing the legacies of the ancient Greek language throughout the early modern Spanish-speaking world. It has truly been a pleasure to help curate for CRSN this selection of posts showcasing the richness of our Hesperides community!

Brenda López

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Literature at the University of Chile. My teaching and research focuses on Greek tragedy and its reception in modern and contemporary literature, with special emphasis in Latin America drama. As part of the Steering Committee of Hesperides, I thank CRSN for this opportunity to present our members’ work on the diverse receptions of Greco-Roman culture in the Luso-Hispanic world.

Erika Valdivieso

An assistant professor of classics at Yale University, I specialize in Latin texts from the Americas. My current research examines Latin epics from colonial Mexico and Brazil as part of the Virgilian tradition. It is exciting to share Hesperides with the readers of this blog. Thanks to the editors of CRSN for this opportunity!

Adriana Vazquez

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Classics at UCLA specializing in Augustan literature and with an especial interest in Lusophone reception in the 17th and 18th centuries. I am presently the Andrew Heiskell/Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Rome Prize Fellow in Ancient Studies at the American Academy in Rome, where I am working on my current book project on Brazilian neoclassical poetry during the colonial period. I am delighted to serve as a co-editor with my fellow Hesperides Steering Committee members and to share with CRSN readers the stimulating research of our contributors.

We hope you enjoy this chance to learn more from our Hesperides authors about the intersections of Classics and the Luso-Hispanic world, and we invite you to keep in touch if this takeover has piqued your interest!
