Méduse, de Hésiode à Assassin’s Creed: Représentations et réception historique d’une figure emblématique de la mythologie grecque

April 14, 2021

A one-day, trans-disciplinary conference on the reception of the figure of Medusa from antiquity to today. From the archaic Gorgon to Assassin’s Creed and #MeToo, via the uses of Medusa at the end of the Roman Republic, in the Middle Ages and in modern times, the speakers will question the popularity and the continual re-semantisation of Medusa. In particular, they will look at three facets of this ambiguous figure: the monstrous antagonist, the victim and the protective figure. The programme may be accessed here and paper abstracts can be found here.

Organised by Timothy Boillet & Manon Boudekhane (M1 Sciences Historiques, Université de Rouen-Normandie), under the direction of Enora Le Quéré (Maîtresse de conférences en Histoire grecque, GRHis), in partnership with Antiquipop.

The day will be live streamed via this link.
