The UK launch of Madeline Miller’s new novel Circe

On a rare visit from the US, Madeline Miller, author of the 2012 Orange Prize-winning best-selling novel The Song of Achilles, celebrates the UK publication of her new novel Circe, the powerful story of the mythological witch Circe, inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. See her in conversation with author of The Burning Chambers and co-founder of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, formerly the Orange Prize, Kate Mosse.

Madeline Miller is the author of The Song of Achilles, which won the Orange Prize for Fiction 2012, was shortlisted for the Stonewall Writer of the Year 2012, was an instant New York Times bestseller and was translated into 25 languages. Madeline holds an MA in Classics from Brown University, and she taught Latin, Greek and Shakespeare to high school students for over a decade. She has also studied at the University of Chicago’s Committee on Social Thought, and at Yale School of Drama, where she focused on the adaptation of classical texts to modern forms. Her essays have appeared in publications including The Guardian and Wall Street Journal.

Kate Mosse is an international bestselling author with sales of more than five million copies in 38 languages. Her fiction includes the novels Labyrinth (2005), Sepulchre (2007), The Winter Ghosts (2009), Citadel (2012), The Taxidermist’s Daughter (2014) and The Burning Chambers (2018), as well as an acclaimed collection of short stories, The Mistletoe Bride & Other Haunting Tales (2013). Kate is the Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and in June 2013, was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to literature. Kate’s forthcoming novel The Burning Chambers will be published by Mantle in May 2018 and will be the first book in a major new historical series: a story of love and loss, war and displacement spanning three centuries and sweeping from Carcassonne and Toulouse to South Africa, via Paris, Amsterdam and London.
