In 2022, the ACE & CREATIVITY blog of the University of Liverpool, Department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology started with the aim of encouraging – and giving the chance to – undergraduates, postgraduate, and early career researchers to express their creativity and engage with Antiquity.
Following the success of our inaugural conference in 2023, the ACE & CREATIVITY team is excited to host its second edition, taking place online via Zoom on November 15th, 2025.
This year’s theme, ‘Hidden Voices’, is inspired by Mythica, the new book by Emily Hauser, which brings to light the untold stories of the real women behind the myths of Antiquity, and also the theme of this year’s Being Human Festival of the Humanities, ‘Between the Lines’. The theme invites participants to explore creative ways of uncovering overlooked, marginalised, or forgotten voices from the ancient world, through the lens of literature, history, archaeology, and the arts.
The conference will include a creative writing workshop with Emily Lord-Kambitsch and Amanda Potter on ‘Filling Fragments and Writing Between the Lines: Poetic Responses to Women in Ancient Literature’. This is open to all conference attendees, and members of the public via Being Human.
We invite submissions of papers that respond to this theme through creative projects, innovative methodologies, or novel forms of public engagement.
Presentations should be 20-min long and will be followed by 10-min Q&A sessions.
Suggested titles and abstracts of 300 words should be sent to: ace.creativity.conference@gmail.com by September 15th, 2025.
Chosen creative contributions will have the opportunity to be published on our website.
