‘The Classical Now’ is an exhibition at King’s College London that explores antiquity in the modern and contemporary artistic imagination.
The exhibition brings together over 50 works – ranging from Greek and Roman antiquities (in bronze, marble, ceramic and mosaic), to modern and contemporary works of sculpture, drawing, painting, ceramics, photography and film.
‘The Classical Now’ is displayed across two adjacent sites in central London: The Arcade at Bush House Arcade and the Inigo Rooms in Somerset House East Wing.
Artists featured in the exhibition include: Edward Allington, Pablo Bronstein, Léo Caillard, Jean Cocteau, Michael Craig-Martin, André Derain, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Damien Hirst, Alex Israel, Derek Jarman, Yves Klein, Louise Lawler, Christopher Le Brun, Roy Lichtenstein, George Henry Longly, Ursula Mayer, Henry Moore, Bruce Nauman, Christodoulos Panayiotou, Giulio Paolini, Grayson Perry, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso, Marc Quinn, Mary Reid Kelley & Patrick Kelley, Sacha Sosno, Mark Wallinger and Rachel Whiteread. ‘The Classical Now’ also incorporates ‘Liquid Antiquity: Conversations’ (featuring Matthew Barney, Paul Chan, Urs Fischer, Jeff Koons, Asad Raza and Kaari Upson).
