Postgraduate and Early Career Workshop: Baroque Latinity

February 6, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+0

The Society for Neo-Latin Studies is organising a postgraduate and early career event in London on 6th February 2020. The focus of the day will be Baroque Latinity, the theme of a recently established AHRC-funded research project. Specialists in the field will present papers on different aspects of sixteenth and seventeenth century Baroque Neo-Latin. Speakers include: William Barton, Jacqueline Glomski, Gesine Manuwald, Victoria Moul, Lucy Nicholas, Alison Shell and Caroline Spearing. They will present current research, discuss the potential for further investigations, and address larger questions of the utilisation of ‘Baroque’ as a term of art and the degree to which ‘Baroque’ may be understood as a literary style and a circumscribed phenomenon. The day is intended to offer theory as well as practical advice, and will also be an excellent opportunity for MA, postgraduate, post-doctoral and early career researchers to find out more about Neo-Latin projects, discuss ideas, and meet other scholars in the discipline. The event is open to those with and without Latin.

There will be no charge for the day, but please register your booking at:

We may be able to contribute some travel bursaries, and please email Lucy Nicholas (lucy.nicholas@sas.ac.uk)prior to the event in this regard.
