This paper explores women’s reception of Greek and Latin literature in modern and contemporary literature. The title quotation is taken from one of two important poems about Helen of Troy by the poet and critic Laura Riding Jackson (1901-1991), whose work was long overshadowed by her relationship with Robert Graves.
